This shot, taken a bit further away than the top photo, better shows readers, not familiar with machine tools, how the XYZ motions are achieved. On this horizontal boring machine the spindle may be raised or lowered, the table moved from left or right or front to rear, and the spindle extended or retracted. All these motions may be achieved through either manual manipulation or power feeds. The power feed control is the tilted yellow wiggle stick positioned about 11 o'clock from the on/off switch. Presently the stick is positioned to make the table move longitudinally (along the length of the machine or boring bar).
