Readying the truck for the gear shaft to be installed. At this point in truck assembly, we intentionally had not placed the upper bolster into position, as we knew it would need to come out, in order it place the gear shaft into the crossboxes, so all we really did was remove most of the bolts holding the cross ties, and pivot them out of the way. If one has not already figured it out, this job cannot practically be done while the truck is in position under the locomotive. A selling point for Shays?
