Shavers
Fork Stream Mitigation Project
Effective
in April, 2011, the Cass Scenic Railroad will not be able to operate on
the West Virginia Central tracks from Big Cut to Cheat Bridge for at
least the next couple years, and possibly not until 2014. This is because the line has been
taken out of service by a Federal project to improve the fish habitat
in the Shavers Fork River. The rail line will be used during
the project exclusively to bring in supplies and equipment from the
closest highway junction (at Cheat Bridge, 15 miles north of the Spruce
townsite) and there may be additional disruptions to allow for major
culvert upgrades along the river.

gives much more detailed information about the Shaver's Fork Stream
Mitigation project. (This link worked on April 23, 2011, but it's
possible that it might break after the stream mitigation contract is
awarded in late May, 2011. If the link doesn't work please
notify the Webmaster at info@msrlha.org).
