The New Cass Locomotive Shop (1973 - present)

Following the disasterous fire that destroyed the Cass shop complex in 1972, the State constructed a new shop on the site. While the current shop may not be as impressive as the old complex, it is more than adequate to allow the current generation of Cass employees to perform the miracles that keep the Park's stable of geared locomotives running more than 50 years after the last spare parts were made.

The locomotive area of the new shop is the same size as the old shop. Then there is the car shop, which had no equivalent in the old place. The machine shop is more compact (because the warehouse area is now in the same building), but the machines are capable of doing pretty much what the Mower shop did - if not what GC&E could do in the heyday of the railroad.

These photos attempt to show some of the typical shop operations and equipment. This album is still being developed and additional photos will be added over time.
