Ride
behind Western Maryland Shay 6 as it leaves the Elkins Depot and makes
its way up the grade across the Tygart Valley River and the Route 219/250
Bridge, making it’s ascent up Kelley Mountain grade to the summit near
the Western Portal of the tunnel. There the train will make a short
stop for servicing before returning to Elkins. This is the same six
mile round trip originally made by Cass Scenic Railroad Shay and
Heisler geared locomotives in annual visits to the Mountain State
Forest Festival over 30 years ago. Each trip will be about 90 minutes.
There will be two morning trips and one late afternoon trip (departing
at 6:00 PM) each day.Elkins to Belington
July 11th and 12th – One Trip Each Day
On
Friday and Saturday (July 11 and 12) there will be one round trip to
Belington leaving at 1:00 PM from the Elkins Depot to Belington. This
four hour trip will follow the scenic Tygart Valley River and will be
powered by Shay 6. Part of the route follows the former Coal & Coke
line past a modern stone quarry and the sites of several old coal

Night Photo SessionsNight
photo sessions will be held at the Elkins Depot starting at about 8:30
PM on July 10th, 11th and 12th. The set ups will feature Shay 6 with a
different diesel every night. We will use over 20,000 watts of quartz
lights to provide spectacular photo opportunities. Bring your camera,
tripod, and a cable release if appropriate. We will supply the lights
and suggest exposure settings. The use of quartz lights will allow
great results by videographers and digital, as well as traditional 35mm
cameras.Vintage Diesel Trips to High Falls Offered DailyIf
you are interested in a conventional passenger excursion pulled by
vintage diesel locomotives, the Tygart Flyer is scheduled for its
regular trip up to the High Falls, at 11:20 AM, daily. This is a very
comfortable ride in regular heavyweight passenger cars with all of the
amenities on board and is a four hour round trip. Make your
reservations now. There are only a limited number of tickets available.Policies:
